History – ZooLocation

The Cologne Zoo was established in 1860. It is the third oldest and one of the largest zoological gardens in Germany. Almost 7000 animals from around 700 species live here on an area of 20 hectares, partly in historic buildings. The enclosures and facilities reflect the multifarious developments in the forms of presentations in zoological gardens and in a way appropriate for the species, from the elephant house of 1863 in the Moorish style which is under a preservation order, to the tropical and bird house “The Rainforest” which opened in 2000. A visit is always worthwhile.

Events can be held at the ZooLocation at the aquarium of the Cologne Zoo, which was built in 1971 together with the complex of buildings for the main entrance.
